Have you thought about your security this Christmas?
17th December 2014
At this time of year most of us have completed our Christmas shopping and this results in our homes becoming a perfect target for burglars who want to help themselves to these sometimes expensive gifts.  The Christmas party season is well underway meaning that homes are empty during the evening and again a target for burglars.

With many businesses closed for longer periods over Christmas and some home owners away celebrating the festivities with relatives this is an ideal time for burglars to strike.

It is a good idea to have a plan of who will attend your premises in the event of an alarm activation, this could be tricky with people consuming more alcohol during the festive season or if you are away visiting relatives.  If you are concerned about this please give PHX Security a call to discuss your options.

Below are a few security tips you could adopt to make your home or business more secure over the festive period or all year round.

  • Ensure your alarm is set when you are not at home or at your business premises.
  • Leave lights and a radio or television on in your home when you are not there to deter burglars.  Ensure there are numerous lights left on in your home not just the hall light.
  • Keep presents hidden away so they cannot be seen through windows or doors.
  • Keep all gates, windows, side doors and garages locked.
  • Don't leave your keys on the inside of your door locks, a burglar could easily get hold of them.
  • If you have the facility to set your alarm when you are inside your property do so for added security.
  • If you are going away for Christmas invest in some automatic lighting or timer switches.
  • Ask a neighbour to open and close your curtains and remove post from your letterbox if you are away.
  • Leave contact details with a neighbour if you are away so they can contact you if there is a problem.
  • Do not leave a descriptive answer machine message such as "You've reached the Price's we are away skiing this Christmas, leave a message and we will return your call when we are back".
  • After Christmas dispose of your empty boxes quickly instead of leaving them outside your property, boxes that contained laptops, televisions etc. inform potential burglars what new items you have in your home.
PHX Security would like to wish everyone a very happy Christmas and New Year.  Enjoy yourselves, stay safe and remember PHX Security are around 365 days per year working towards keeping properties within the local area and residents safe.
