How to protect your home at Christmas
30th October 2024
It is important to remember as we get into the festive spirit, to keep your home safe over the Christmas Period. Although it is important to keep your home safe all year round, Christmas time seems to be the most vulnerable time of the year.
We often leave on twinkly lights, candles or to leaving the Turkey cooking.
What can we do to avoid those festive mishaps?
- Christmas lights can be a hazard. Before leaving the house make sure they are turned off.
- Always check the Christmas light wire for any damage. This could put an individual at risk of electrocution or even start an electrical fire. Check the wires before plugging them in.
- Remove and dispose of any damaged bulbs - Sometimes damage to bulbs can happen when in storage. This could cause the bulbs to crack or break. Make sure each individual bulb is checked before turning them on.
- Blow out any candles that have been lit - Candles are lovely to set the festive mood but can also be very dangerous when left unattended. Blow the candles out when you are not in the room and place them on a stable surface to prevent the candle falling and causing a fire.
- Avoid a Kitchen Mishap - Keep an eye on any food whilst cooking and do not leave your stove or oven unattended to avoid a potential fire from starting.
