The temperature is hotting up and its not long until the schools finish for the summer. The next few months are some of the busiest months for people going away on holiday. PHX Security Ltd have compiled a holiday home security checklist to assist you with ensuring your home is safe and secure while you are away.
- Ensure that you have mowed the lawn and trimmed all hedges
- Put all ladders or other tools away in a secure place
- Move all spare keys to your property out of view and store them in a safe concealed place
- Unplug electrical items such as televisions
- Set timers on your lights if you have the facility, if you don't then ask a neighbour to pop in and turn lights on and off during the evening
- Put all valuables in a safe and secure place
- Inform you key holders and Alarm Response Company that your property will be vacant
- Check all doors and windows are closed, locked and secure
- Set your alarm
You can also follow these other steps if you have neighbours who will assist:
- Ask neighbours to pick up your post or ask the Post Office to hold on to your post while you are away
- Ensure you have someone you trust as a key holder whilst you are away and that they know how to contact you - just in case
- Make sure your Alarm Response Company is aware of anyone who may be going into your property whilst you are away and that they have a way of verifying who that person is
- If you are away for a long time ask a neighbour to mow your lawn for you
- Ask a neighbour to put your bins out each week so that there is activity at your property
Once you have followed these steps you can relax and enjoy your holiday.
Research has been shown that there are a set of security actions which can help to provide up to 50 times more protection for your home versus no security.
This has been recommended by police throughout the country.
